Potential for Disaster Recovery
Developing a nomadic architecture that can be comfortable (and fashionable... we have to make money somehow) is important, however, with the development of a successful system for nomadic living, applications in disaster areas will be a likely next step.
With the development of an urban infastructure system that can be easily depolyed in disaster sites, areas can be prepared rapidly for rehabitation. Once the foundation is laid and utilities ready to plug into units, residents can access units to plug into the sites as they are prepared to move back. If the pieces are affordable and durable enough, they could easily become more than temporary housing.
It would not be hard to be better than a FEMA trailer.
New Orleans is, of course, a perfect and easily accessible case study. I will start looking into FEMA trailers and other proposed solutions to this area, especially the Katrina Cottage.
